Light Spring Likely For Peeping

Trainer Ron Quinton has revealed that Peeping will likely have a light 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign after she returned to racing with a narrow win in the Fairfield RSL Club Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.

Peeping started the Fairfield RSL Club Handicap as a clear favourite after she performed well in a barrier trial over 1050 metres at Royal Randwick on July 31 and she was settled in a lovely position by jockey Sam Clipperton in the early stages of the race.

Veteran sprinter Howmuchdoyouloveme took up the running in the early stages of the race and looked as though he had the race won when he pinched a break at the top of the straight, but he clearly tired in the final 100 metres and Peeping was able to run him down in the shadows of the post.

Peeping showed that she was capable of performing at stakes level when she took out the Listed The Sebring (1200m) and finished second in the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, but Quinton does not have any firm plans for the daughter of Redoute’s Choice and she is likely to only have a light sprint.

“I thought it was a very good performance because the old horse Howmuchdoyoulove put in a huge performance and one of his best in a long time,” Quinton said.

“For her to gun him down giving him a good start has a lot of merit.

“She has a lot of improvement left in her and Tom Kelly and myself have already discussed that we may only give her a light spring looking to next autumn, but we will just take each step at a time for the moment.

“We haven’t got any firm plans at the moment and it is just lovely for her to come back and get the job done.

“It will be a fillies and mares something and we will just have a looksee.

“I am very proud of her and I thought Sam rode her perfect.”

Kristy Lee rounded out the placings with a typically solid effort, but one of the most eye-catching runs in the race came from 2013 Crown Oaks winner Kirramosa, who hit the line strongly in the final stages of the race.

Kirramosa has not recorded a race win since her Crown Oaks triumph, but she has been set for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) by trainer John Sargent.
