Legless Veuve was coming off a maiden win at Sale last start but trainer Stuart Webb was always confident the the Pins filly would race up to her early potential this campaign.

Webb will now prepare the filly for the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in a fortnight before sending her to the spelling with the Autumn Carnival in mind.

“She got a little bit lost at her first start at Flemington, was terrific that night against Zamzam,” Webb said.

“To beat this lot the way she did today, I think she is real high class. She has still got her winter coat and she is still so far behind the others.”

“She has a real motor and really rapt to see where she is at.”

Legless Veuve was sent out at the good odds of $12 and winning jockey Mark Zahra was able to take up a forward position from a good barrier and strode away in the straight to record a half a length win over La Luna Rossa ($17) with $51 shot Sword Of Light doing her best work at the finish to fill third spot.

The heavily backed favourite Whispering Brook ($2.10) had to work hard from a wide barrier before reaching the lead but the early effort under the 58.5kg took its toll in the straight and the Western Australian filly faded to finish in seventh position, two and a quarter lengths behind the winner.
