Last Saturday’s Flemington placegetter Leather‘N’Lace is set to back up this week in the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield.
Trainer Darren Weir has given the all clear for Leather ’N’ Lace to run week to week following the fillies third behind Bring Me Roses and Hiyaam in the Group 2 $200,000 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m).
“She’s come through that well and will back-up,” Weir told racing.com.
Leather‘N’Lace has been in outstanding form this campaign as she worked her way up through the grades and kicked off her preparation with a win in an 1100m Warrnambool Maiden on August 24.
The Street Cry filly then went to Bendigo where she won a 1300m BenchMark 64 Handicap before stepping up to city class for a win in 1400m three year old fillies Plate at Caulfield on September 23 prior to her third in the Edward Manifold Stakes.
Leather‘N’Lace is marked at $11 for the Thousand Guineas at Ladbrokes.com.au who have the James Cummings trained Alizee as the $2.50 favourite ahead of Shoals at $4.80 and Booker at $6.50.
Alizee cemented her spot at the top of the Thousand Guineas market order with an emphatic win in the Group 1 $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on September 30.
