Leapfrog Out For Revenge In Gold Coast Feature

Leapfrog will attempt to outdo last year’s performance when he lines up for the Bat Out Of Hell Handicap at the Gold Coast this weekend.

The six-year-old gelding finished a close second to Paprika in last year’s edition of the race, which is worth a tidy $100,000.

Trainer Bruce Hill is confident that Leapfrog can come out on top this weekend.

“He’s a genuine old horse who has tried his guts out right throughout his career,” Hill said.

“He’s going as well if not better than he was last year – he’ll be pretty right come Saturday, I’m sure of that.”

Hill insists that Leapfrog’s ailments are completely at bay in time for the short and sweet 900 metre race.

“He’s always had a few issues that we have to manage but we just go easy and play around with him at home and he’s right to go,” he said.

While he is going into the race confident of Leapfrog’s winning chances, Hill understands there will be solid competition.

“Try winning one and see how easy it is,” the trainer said.

“It doesn’t appear as strong a race as it usually is but in my experience it never works out like that in good races.”

Leapfrog will be first-up in the Bat Out Of Hell Handicap after a six week break following his spring campaign.

The Hurricane Sky gelding experiences mixed success in the spring carnival, winning two of his race starts but finishing no better than sixth in his other four.

The experienced gelding, who has had 39 career starts, will go into Saturday’s race as equal top weight and will carry 59 kilograms, along with Seek And Find and Trusted Partner.
