A win by the Gai Waterhouse trained Law at Randwick on Saturday will be enough to guarantee a start in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 5.

Waterhouse sent Law straight to the paddock after winning the Listed $100,000 NSW Thoroughbred Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 5 when ridden by Tim Clark.
The Denman colt has since barrier trialled twice for his return to the race track and another win will see Law as one of the top fancies for the world’s richest two year old race.
Law carriers the well-recognised purple and white stars of Denise Martins’ Star Thoroughbreds and the prominent syndicator will be hoping for another win for her huge band of owners.
“If he wins on Saturday that will give him enough prize money and it’s clear sailing to the Slipper,” Martin told AAP.
“Gai said he would then have one or two lead-ups and the options are open-ended.
“He has come through his trials in great order and Nash rides him on Saturday.”
Premiership winning jockey Nash Rawiller will ride Law in the $85,000 2yo Handicap (1000m) on Saturday after partnering the colt in his two recent Randwick barrier trials, recording a win and second.
Martin said that she paid $90,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Sales for the Denman colt out of the South American mare Lady Cat and the youngster is well on the way to repaying his purchase price after picking up $60,000 for his Breeders’ Plate win.
Martin admits that she likes to buy yearlings on looks but was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the pedigree on the dam’s side.
“I buy horses on type and he was a colt I liked,” Martin said.
“But he has a very attractive pedigree page.
“His dam is a South American Group Three winner and traces back to Storm Cat.”
Law is already fairly prominent in the Golden Slipper market order with Ladbrokes.com.au marking him at $16 on the sixth line of betting behind the Gerald Ryan trained Rubick at $4.40 and Peter Snowden’s smart filly Earthquake at $5.50.
Law will be among the hundreds of two year olds that will be left in the Golden Slipper after second declarations are taken today.
