Battled scared galloper Lamasery showed he is back on track for a major win in the Spring in taking out the Group 2 $200,000 Bacardi Hill Stakes (2000m) at Randwick today.

Trainer David Vandyke is just happy that Lamasery is back racing at this level and will now step the six year old up to the Group 1 $400,000 The Metropolitan(2400m) at Randwick on October 6.

“That was a good class of field and it’s been a fantastic effort by everyone involved. This horse has been in work for eight months,” Vandyke said.

“There is no I Lamasery, it’s been team and the farrier’s, the vet, the staff at home, everyone has just done a great job to get this horse over the line.”

Vandyke can’t believe that Lamasery has been able to bounce back from injury to produce such a strong effort to win at Group 2 level.

Lamasery had good form last Spring with wins at Rosehill and Flemington as well as finishing third in last year’s Metropolitan behind The Verminator.

Winning jockey Peter Robl always had Lamasery in a winning position from the inside barrier and once they were in the clear in the straight, the six year old dug deep to overpower Mourayan and the Peter Moody trained Lights Of Heaven.

“He drew barrier one and we were always going to get a nice run in the race,” Robl said.

“Dave, he’s a very good trainer, he’s got this horse peaking for Metropolitan day which is in a fortnight and he’s going to be very hard to beat in that race.”

“He’s going to be spot on in a fortnight.”

Lights Of Heaven appreciated the step up in distance and put in her best effort this campaign and after being left in front fought hard to the line for Josuha Parr indicating she is back on track for the rest of the Spring.
