Melbourne filly Lady Lakshmi announced herself as a possible spring contender at Flemington today, picking up her third straight win to continue a faultless winter campaign in the Ken Cox Handicap (1410m).

After jumping from an unfavourable position in barrier 12, the daughter of Lonhro was forced to work early as Daniel Stackhouse jostled to find an ideal position.

Stackhouse eventually guided Lady Lakshmi to sit just outside the leader and despite the early work she was clearly the horse to beat entering the straight.

After finding the lead early in the straight, the rising three-year-old tired late but her class prevailed as she held on for a one-length win from Resistant and Razzle Dazzle Rock.

Co-trainer David Feek, who prepares the filly with David Brideoake at Mornington, was especially pleased with how she was able to find her way into the winner’s stall despite being challenged early.

“She’s done a bit of work to get into a nice position today so it’s really pleasing,” Feek said.

Feek said the promising youngster will return for the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) on July 6 and is expecting her to improve as she steps up in distance.

“She’ll get a mile and a quarter and beyond, we’re really pleased,” he said.

While her next winter assignment is the immediate focus, Feek is adamant Lady Lakshmi can make an impact in bigger races this spring.

“We’ll just take her home and probably give her a few weeks ridden quietly on the farm. She doesn’t need to go out for a tradtional two or three week spell and we don’t have time for that anyway,” Feek said.

“She’s progressed nicely and her demeanour to me suggests she’s a classy horse.”

Hi! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you
using for this website? I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had issues with hackers and I’m looking at
alternatives for another platform. I would be fantastic if you
could point me in the direction of a good platform.
