The Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes is always an outstanding way to start the Melbourne Festival Of Racing and that is the case again in 2018 as the race is packed full of some of the most talented horses in the country.
It is Emirates Stakes winner Tosen Stardom that is a narrow favourite to claim his third Group 1 victory, but standing in his way are fellow Group 1 Hartnell, Single Gaze, Shillelagh, Abbey Marie and Mighty Boss as well as talented Japanese sprinter Brave Smash.
The Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes isn’t the only highlight on this card and there are a number of other races that are set to be genuine form references for the rest of the Melbourne Festival Of Racing.
The two Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Preludes, the Kevin Hayes Stakes, the Rubiton Stakes and the Autumn Stakes have all drawn outstanding fields and we are truly in for a brilliant day of racing.

2018 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes Day Results

Race 1 (12:30pm) – $100,000 The Big Screen Company Handicap Results

Khutulun returned to winning form with a narrow win over Downhearted in The Big Screen Company Handicap at Caulfield this afternoon.

Downhearted kicked clear at the top of the straight and looked as though he had the race won, but he fell in a hole in the final 100 metres and Khutulun was able to take advantage.

Gallic Chieftain got a long way back in the run and hit the line nicely in an effort that suggests he is in for a big Autumn.

Race 2 (1:05pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (Fillies) Results

Enbihaar will go into the 2018 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes as a leading contender after recording a tough win in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude.

There was plenty of late support for Enbihaar in betting and that money proved to be on the ball as she claimed a very professional win.

Oohood flashed home in the final stages of the race and looks as though she will relish the step-up to 1200 metres for the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes.

Race 3 (1:40pm) – $200,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) Results

Written By held-off Plague Stone to take out the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) at Caulfield this afternoon.

Jordan Childs timed his run to perfection on Written By after slotting his mount in from a wide barrier draw and the son of Written Tycoon showed an impressive turn-of-foot when he was asked for an extra effort.

Written By will press on to the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in a fortnight and will be a genuine winning contender.

Race 4 (2:15pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Ladbrokes TS Carlyon Cup Results

Gail Chop made a winning return to the races in the 2018 Ladbrokes TS Carlyon Cup at Caulfield this afternoon.

The two-time Group 1 winner always looked to have a clear class edge over the rest of this field and that proved to be the case.

He stalked Master Reset in the early stages of the race and was too classy for Harlem when the sprint went on.

Race 5 (2:50pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes Results

Booker led from start to finish to record an excellent win in the 2017 Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Dwayne Dunn took Booker straight to the front in the early stages of the race and she kicked clear when she was asked for an extra effort at the top of the straight.

Leather’n’Lace hit the line strongly for second, but Booker never really looked like getting beaten.

Race 6 (3:25pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Rubiton Stakes Results

Super Cash found clear running at the right time to record a fast-finishing win in the Rubiton Stakes.

Craig Williams looked as though he wouldn’t find a gap for Super Cash and Flamberge looked as though she had the race won, but she eventually found clear running at the 100 metre mark.

Super Cash absolutely motored when she was asked for an extra effort and she finished over the top of Flamberge to win the race for the second year in a row.

Race 7 (4:05pm) – $200,000 Group 2 Autumn Stakes Results

Holy Snow upstaged a number of highly-rated gallopers to score an excellent win in the Autumn Stakes.

Prevailing Winds took up the running in the early stages of the Autumn Stakes and he ensured that the race was run at a genuine tempo.

Jockey Michael Dee timed his run to perfection on Holy Snow and the promising horse showed an explosive turn-of-foot in the final stages of the race.

Trainer Mick Price confirmed that Holy Snow will press on to the 2018 Australian Guineas.

Race 8 (4:45pm) – $500,000 Group 1 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes Results

Hartnell finished over the top of his rivals to win a thrilling edition of the 2018 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon.

Thronum took up the running in the early stages of the Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes and he looked as though he would be tough to beat when he pinched a break at the top of the straight.

It took Hartnell a while to wind-up, but he timed his run to perfection and he got his nose in front in the shadows of the post to beat the fast-finishing Single Gaze and Brave Smash.

Race 9 (5:25pm) – $150,000 Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes Results
