In-form filly Hera could add some New Zealand flavour to Saturday week’s Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Top Kiwi trainer Roger James is weighing up a start in the winter’s biggest two-year-old race after the exciting youngster scored her first black-type win in the Listed Foal Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday.

It was the second straight win for the daughter of O’Reilly who is yet to finish worse than fourth from five career outings.

James is also considering spelling the filly for the spring but some wet weather in the “sunshine state” could convince him to extend her campaign.

Hera’s two career wins have come on heavy tracks and Eagle Farm has shown it needs only the slightest downpour to turn into a mudlark’s paradise.

One man who is convinced James should keep the youngster’s run going is jockey Matthew Cameron who was impressed with her ability to handle the heavy going on Saturday.

‘‘She’s a nice little filly and she handled the track well,’’ Cameron told New Zealand’s the Waikato Times.

‘‘For Roger James to start a horse on a track like that, you had to be pretty confident she’d handle it. It was a really good win.

‘‘I don’t see why you couldn’t keep pushing forward with her because she does handle wet tracks.’’

Cameron said Hera is a mature filly and that her versatility puts her ahead of many of her rivals.

‘‘She jumps, she travels, she can race in behind them and she led up the day I ran second on her at Avondale,’’ he said.

James has already pencilled in the Group 1 1000 Guineas (1600m) at Riccarton in November as likely spring goal for the lightly-raced filly.
