Kitty Launched Into Magic Millions Combat

Combat Kitty is set to run in the Magic Millions Guineas

Combat Kitty may have to hit the ground running in her summer campaign with trainer Mathew Smith toying with the idea of dropping her directly into the Magic Millions carnival.

She’s set to run in the Magic Millions Guineas in mid January on the Gold Coast where she’s already being touted as a favourite.

It will be a tough ask though, especially if she takes on the $1 million race first up in her prep.

Smith will trial her at Rosehill on Tuesday before deciding on how much work she needs to do to get back to full fitness.

“I’ll see how she goes in the trial before working out if she needs a race prior to the Magic Millions,” Smith said.

She should still have a bit of residual fitness given the short turnaround from the spring but Smith says she’s made the most of her time off.

“She’s had three weeks in the paddock since her Melbourne campaign, she’s put on weight and looks in really good shape,” he said.

Combat Kitty finished second in the Magic Millions Classic earlier this year and has since gone on to forge a highly successful 2011.

She won in tremendous style during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and any other year would have been the clear highlight for Smith.

Such was his spring though that the Group 1 Myer Classic win by Hurtle Myrtle probably claims that prize.

She won’t be a part of the Magic Millions carnival with the autumn her clear focus.

“Hurtle Myrtle isn’t due to return to the stables until the end of this month and then we will start to get her ready for the Doncaster Mile,” Smith said.
