Trainer John Sargent is adamant that Kirramosa’s Melbourne Cup campaign is on track following her first up fifth in a 1200m BenchMark 90 Handicap at Rosehill last Saturday.

The 1200m was clearly too short for the 2013 Crown Oaks winner but Sargent was more then happy with the way she got to the line to be beaten only a length and a half behind the Ron Quinton trained Peeping.
“Very pleasing to see her hit the line as she did,” Sargent told Racenet.
“She had been working strongly and I thought she trialled great but you still want to see them do it on raceday.”
Sargent has reported that Kirramosa has pulled up in great order and will now head to the Listed $100,000 Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong on September 4.
“She’s come through Saturday in great order,” Sargent said.
“The Mona Lisa is her next target at this stage with the long term goal being the Cups.”
“She’s still looking ahead to the spring and she’s entered in all of the cups. I think she’ll run 3200 metres,” Sargent said.
Kirramosa is among the entries for the Group 1 $3m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17 and will be entered for the Group 1 $6m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3 when nominations close on September 1.
The Alamosa mare has fully recovered from a cracked pedal bone that ruled her out of the 2015 Autumn Carnival and her run at Rosehill was the first time she had been back to the races since running eleventh of twelve in the Group 1 $400,000 Cathay Pacific Caulfield Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Kirramosa was the star staying filly of the 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival with wins in the Group 2 $300,000 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and five days later in the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) both at Flemington.
But she has struggled to find any form since with four unplaced runs before last Saturday.
In an early Caulfield Cup market order with Ladbrokes.com.au, Kirramosa is marked as a $67 chance.
