Kirramosa is set to contest the 2015 Tramway Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday and trainer John Sargent is confident that the Crown Oaks winner will be at peak fitness after she runs in the Group 2 event.

Kirramosa returned to racing for the first time since she suffered an injury in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on October 11 when she finished fifth behind Peeping in the Fairfield RSL Club Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 15 and Sargent was very pleased with the performance of the staying mare.
Sargent is not sure whether Kirramosa will be able to win over 1400 metres against the likes of First Seal and Lucia Valentina in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes this weekend, but he told Racing Ahead that the Alamosa mare is sure to take plenty of benefit out of the run.
“I am very happy,” Sargent said.
“She is on the way back, she had a very good run fresh and I think that after tomorrow she will be in her element once she gets to a mile and further.
“She had come between them to come out wide and she could have ran third if she had a fair run.
“The main thing was that she came through it perfect, she is on the way up and I think that race on Saturday will suit her.
“She will be in the firing line, but I don’t think she will beat them at 1400 metres.”
Kirramosa has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m), Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) and Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m), but Sargent is yet to decide on the major 2015 Spring Racing Carnival target for the five-year-old and he said that he will take it one run at a time with the injury-plagued mare.
“We are just taking it by ear and we will see how she gets through Saturday,” Sargent said.
“Whether she heads to an Epsom or heads down to Melbourne and bases there to go to a mile and then to 2000 to see where we are with her.
“We are just taking it race by race with her and the main thing is that she is a happy and a fit horse.”
Kirramosa is currently available at 2015 Tramway Stakes odds of $41 with Ladbrokes, while First Seal ($3.70) is a clear favourite from Messene ($7), Arabian Gold ($7.50), Lucia Valentina ($10) and Hauraki ($10).
