Kincaple’s racing career in doubt

The future of Saturday’s Perth Cup flop Kincaple is in grave doubt after scans revealed the six-year-old had torn a suspensory ligament during the race.

Kincaple pulled up distressed and was found lame in the off-foreleg by the club vet following his shock 12th when $4.20 favourite behind Cup winner Western Jewel.

Part-owner and track rider Troy Jackman said yesterday the Pentire gelding would be given between three and six months break before a decision was made on if he would return to racing.

“It is a fairly good size tear, unfortunately,” Jackman said.

“After six months the leg can be scanned again.

“If the tear has not healed and the vet is not satisfied he can spend the rest of his days in a paddock.”

The Mark Reed-trained galloper was bought on the advice of Melbourne jockey Mark Zahra after he finished 16th in the Adelaide Cup (3200m) in March.

The former Jim Conlan-trained stayer had immediate success winning first-up.

A string of race wins followed including the Listed Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) in September.

The former Melbourne restricted handicapper also finished second in the Group 2 2011 C B Cox Stakes (2100m)  at Ascot in December behind God Has Spoken prior to breaking down in the Cup.

All up Kincaple won seven races in 27starts, four out of ten in West Australia and a total of $362,592 in prizemoney.
