Kermadec went to the top of 2015 Cox Plate betting markets when he stormed home from the tail of the field to take out the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on September 19, but he is yet to prove that he is capable of running out the testing trip.

Waller told Racing Ahead this morning that Kermadec gives him every impressive that he will have no issues with 2000 metres and he is hopeful that the son of Teofilo can finish in the Caulfield Stakes placings to show that he is a genuine Cox Plate contender.

“He is just a good racehorse and he does everything right,” Waller said.

“He always hits the line strongly if it is 1400 metres or a mile and he has the right attributes there.

“It is never completely clear until they have been under pressure at the distance, but his Mum was a 2000 metre Group winner as well.

“In my mind I think he still has another five percent (of improvement) to go, but that is hard to quantify.

“We have given him the three week break here to give him two weeks into the Cox Plate, which I think is perfect and it would be nice to see him run in the top three to suggest that he is a genuine Cox Plate chance.”

Kermadec was allocated the outside barrier when the 2015 Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes field was released earlier in the week, but Waller is hopeful that the wide draw will not be an issue for the four-year-old.

Waller said that he will not give Glen Boss any firm instructions ahead of the Caulfield Stakes, but he believes that the leading hoop will have plenty of options depending on the tempo of the race.

“We will just leave it to Glen I think,” Waller said.

“We were in a similar position a couple of starts back, he was three wide sitting outside the leader and that was over the mile.

“I guess it will just depend on the tempo of the race and things like that, but he is a pretty versatile horse and a relaxed customer.

“It will just be a matter of what Glen wants to do on him.”

Kermadec is currently available at 2015 Caulfield Stakes odds of $3 with Ladbrokes and he is currently a clear favourite from Fawkner ($4.20), Pornichet ($6), Criterion ($6.50), Contributer ($8.50), Happy Trails ($12) and Entirely Platinum ($41).
