Trainer Michael Kent has two chances in the Wyong Gold Cup

Trainer Michael Kent is giving himself double the chance at winning this Friday’s Carlton Mid Wyong Gold Cup by nominating two of his stable’s talents.

The Victorian trainer has nominated both Countcool and former New Zealand horse Zoomin for the 2,100 metre race.

“I am keen to go to Wyong with both horses and so are their owners,” Kent said.

“I will make a final decision after track work tomorrow.

“It’s a nice race and we might go on to the Newcastle Cup after that.

“I have been looking for racing surfaces for both horses that don’t have any jar in them and I have been told that Wyong is a great track.

“I have done my homework about the track.”

The run in Fridays’ $120,000 Cup will be the first for Zoomin since his disappointing performance in the Banjo Patterson Series Final at Flemington on July 9, when he finished tenth.

“He needed a freshen up and has had a trial over 1500 metres so he will be fit,” Kent said.

“He is a natural stayer.”

Zoomin has won eight of his 32 race starts, while five-year-old gelding Countcool has won five of his 19 career runs.
