Champion Victorian trainer Darren Weir will be left with one runner in the $1m Woodford Reserve Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday after in-form galloper Kenjorwood was scratched on Thursday morning.

Kenjorwood was out of luck at the barrier draw coming up with barrier eighteen in the original draw and the seven year old dual acceptor has also been withdrawn from the Listed $120,000 Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday after also drawing poorly at barrier ten in the twelve horse field.

Kenjorwood was racing in career best form with wins from his last two start in a 1600m Handicap at Flemington on December 17 followed by a win in the Listed $120,000 Swettenham Stud Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on December 26.

Lucky Hussler will now represent the Weir stable and the dual Group 1 winner will be trying to win back to back Magic Millions Cup after scoring a comfortable win in last year’s version when ridden by Glen Boss.

Brad Rawiller has the mount this year and Lucky Hussler has also drawn awkwardly at barrier fourteen in the original draw but will move in several spaces if the rest of the emergencies fail to get a run.

The Joe Cleary trained War Jet is also a scratching which has allowed the first two emergencies Brewery and Monsieur Gustave to gain a start in the Magic Millions Cup.

Lucky Hussler has had a freshen up since his last start win in the Group 3 $150,000 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) at Sandown November 12 and Weir is happy with his progress heading to the Gold Coast.

“He’s good.  He’s been aimed at this race,” Weir said.

Lucky Hussler sits at the top of the Magic Millions Cup market at $3.50 with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of the in-form Tony Gollan trained Most Important at $4.40 and Robert Heathcote’s Hopfgarten at $7.
