Trainer Mark Kavanagh is confident that Super Cool can return to his best form in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on Saturday, if he can find clear running in the final stages of the race.

Super Cool started his 2013 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a fast-finishing third behind in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) but has been slightly disappointing in his two subsequent starts.
The Fastnet Rock colt was galloped on by another horse in the early stages of the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on September 14 and failed to find clear running in the straight; finishing a narrow fourth behind Fiorente.
He returned to the races in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington last weekend and once again ran into trouble; finishing ninth after being caught behind a wall of horses in the final stages of the race.
Kavanagh believes that Super Cool needs clear running to perform at his best, like he received when he won the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) during the autumn, and told Thorough Media that he is hopeful the four-year-old will produce an improved performance in the Caulfield Stakes this weekend.
“He has trained on alright since last Saturday and he worked well here this morning so there is no reason not to start him,” Kavanagh said.
“He didn’t get out and didn’t get a crack at them so we will see how he goes on Saturday.
“He needs to get to the outside and he needs clear running and he hasn’t been getting that his last two starts.
“Certainly you will see him run on pretty well if he gets a good clear run and there is plenty of pace in the race.”
Super Cool will face stablemate Atlantic Jewel in the Caulfield Stakes and Kavanagh said the glamour mare is going as good as ever heading into her final lead-up before the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
“It is a drier track this week and there is a bit of pace on so we should see her run at her best,” Kavanagh said.
“She worked pretty crisp here on Tuesday morning and she was pretty good this morning.
“I reckon she is going as good as ever.”
Kavanagh is chasing his third win in the Caulfield Stakes after previously winning the race with Maldivian (2007) and Whobegotyou (2009).
