Kathy O’Hara rode perfect race to win on Ofcourseican

Jockey Kathy O’Hara produced a perfect ride on Ofcourseican to take out the Group 3 $125,000 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm today.

O’Hara had Ofcourseican ($4.60) positioned just behind the leaders coming to the home turn and when she let the five year old go at the 250m, she shot away for a comfortable two and three quarter length win.

Runner up Somepin Anypin ($3.30) set the early pace and battled on well for second with Fast Clip ($5.50)  running an even race to wind up in third spot.

Favourite Neeson ($3.20) was always at the back of the field for Jay Ford and failed to beat a runner home.

“She rounded them up in a stride. At the top of the straight she just put them away and went right on with it,” O’Hara said.

“I was surprised how easily she was able to round them up. To be honest I thought they might sprint away from her and she’d chase them down late.  She’s got a great a turn of foot and she can win plenty of races looking at that.”

Winning trainer Ron Quinton was quick to praise the ride of Hara and said that the Group 1 $350,000 The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick on April 21 could be on the agenda for the Mossman mare.

“The small field suited her today and Kathy’s beautiful hands worked well and she won really well,” Quinton said.

“It is so important for her to win a group three, like she’s a very valuable mare anyway, but she is more valuable now.”

Ofcourseican has added valuable black type beside her name by taking out the Group 3 event and has added great value as a future brood mare.
