Manawanui is one of just six acceptors for the Group 1 Golden Rose

Australian Turf Club racing manager Colin Tuck has revealed the final field for this Saturday’s Golden Rose event at Rosehill Gardens.

Somewhat surprisingly just six horses will contest the $1 million event with numbers drastically falling away from the initial round of nominations.

That being said though all the top contenders will be present in the race including Manawanui who’s connections had to pay a $50,000 late entrance fee to gain a start.

Joining him in the race will be Helmet, Smart Missile, Foxwedge, Aeronautical and Flight of Pegasus.

That means there will be no fillies in this year’s Golden Rose.

The obvious first question when looking through the acceptances is where will the speed come from?

None of the entries are notable leaders with almost all having good turns of foot.

Peter Snowden may provide that answer though as his horse Helmet will wear blinkers for the first time in his career this weekend, potentially to put him into the leading position.

“He’s (Helmet) shown some erratic tendencies at times,  Peter’s had that ace up his sleeve and he’s produced it in a  one million dollar race,” Tuck said.

In some sad news to come out during the acceptance period though is the notable omission of Delago’s Lad.

The colt was completing track work earlier this morning when he collapsed just as he was being pulled up.

It’s thought he suffered a heart attack in an almost identical manner to that which killed Cedarberg just two weeks ago.

The Golden Rose barrier draw has just been completed and the horses will jump from the following gates; Foxwedge (1) Flight Of Pegasus (2) Manawanui (3) Helmet (4) Smart Missile (5) Aeronautical (6).
