Jurasound Ready for Australasian Oaks Test

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig has been thrilled with the building form of three-year-old Jurasound this campaign and is confident the filly will find Saturday’s Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville in peak condition.

While yet to contest an event over a mile through her short racing career so far, Jurasound has responded well to a continued step-up in distance this time in; taking out the Mornington Guineas (1500m) by more than three lengths on March 28th before placing second to Fontein Ruby in the Vobis Gold Reef (1600m) at Caulfield last time out on April 18th.

While conceding the team is not completely sure she will relish another step-up to 2000m in the 2015 Australasian Oaks, Dabernig believes the Von Costa De Hero filly’s superior fitness will play a key role in a competitive tilt on Saturday.

“Fontein Ruby was just a bit too good for us last time,” Dabernig told AAP.

“Stepping up to the 2000 metres is a little concern but she’s very good at the mile and I guess until you try them you don’t really know.

“We are going into the unknown but she gives the indication she should, and importantly she is very fit.”

Jurasound immediately stamped her claims as one to watch when debuting to racing for second in a Cranbourne minor in January 2014; returning for second in the GRC Event Centre Maiden (1100m) and third amongst notable competition in the Davidsons Maiden Plate (1200m) during a brief winter campaign.

Breaking through for a maiden win in the Imagination Play Maiden (1200m) first-up this time, the filly out of Oceano was unlucky to be blocked for a run when sixth in the Gold Carat (1200m) on January 3rd but comfortably won each of the Mornington Soul Pattinson BM64 (1500m) and Melbourne Signage Concepts BM70 (1600m) leading into her Mornington Guineas triumph.

Including amongst a list of 38 nominees, Jurasound is expected to be confirmed in a capacity 2015 Australasian Oaks final field of 16 on Wednesday.

Appearing likely to fight it out with the likes of Fontein Ruby and Group 1 winner Fenway, Jurasound is currently available at generous Australasian Oaks odds of $21 with Ladbrokes Australia.
