Lisa Cropp will know today what penalty, if any, she receives as a result of testing positive to a banned substance last week.

The drug zopiclone was found in her system, a medication commonly used for people suffering from insomnia.

Cropp’s reason for having the drug was just that and she is able to present a prescription proving she has a legitimate need.

That said she still failed to inform stewards beforehand and as a result must now face an inquiry.

She has already missed a stack of rides dating back to last Wednesday at Sale.

A urine sample taken last Thursday will also be released as further evidence.

Integrity services executive of Racing Victoria, Dayle Brown, said stewards are taking the matter seriously and any positive result is far from a certainty.

“Stewards will consider the doctor’s letter. That will be part of the inquiry,” Brown said.

This isn’t the first time Cropp has faced an inquiry after returning a positive swab.

Back in 2005 while still in New Zealand she was hit with a long ban after traces of methamphetamine were found in her system.

That wasn’t even the bottom for the former premiership winner and multiple Group 1 champion, since then she’s had a spate of injuries, most seriously a broken neck.

She moved to Victoria at the end of last year and has managed to resurrect her career building a good reputation and 31 wins so far this season.
