Godolphin have potentially unearthed a star filly in the form of Jorda, who justified her clear favouritism to win the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debt at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

All nine fillies confirmed in the Gimcrack Stakes field were on debut this afternoon, but Jorda continued to receive the greatest market share of attention for success after trialling well.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey James McDonald allowed the daughter of Exceed And Excel to stride forward and take an ideal position in running, on the heels of early leaders Didn’t Mention It and Chain Of Fools.

Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, McDonald allowed Jorda plenty of time to balance before asking for an extra effort, and while clearly very green, the filly produced a strong-enough kick to find the line ahead of a fast-finishing Kanga’s Eye and Lucky Louie.

McDonald was pleased with the effort produced by Jorda on debut and is confident that she will progress into a serious racehorse through coming seasons.

“She moves like a panther and gallops like one as well,” McDonald said after crossing the line.

“She’s got a great attitude and she isn’t even blowing.

“The track is in beautiful order and felt good under foot.

“She’s been very well educated out there at Osman Park, so credit to John and the team.”

A plan is yet to be set in place for Jorda, however a return to the paddock with a view towards the major 2017 two-year-olds races figures as the likely course of action.

Godolphin filly Calliope won the Gimcrack Stakes in 2015, and returned to racing this year for a number of impressive results, highlighted by a strong win over the likes of Omei Sword in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m).
