Jockey To Walk Out Of Hospital After Breaking Neck

Despite suffering serious injuries, Northern New South Wales jockey Allan Chau looks like being released from hospital by as soon as this afternoon.

Chau was involved in a disastrous accident last Saturday at a Port Macquarie race meet.

He was tipped over the front of his mount, Glenrock Doney, just after the start of his race and was subsequently trampled by the race horse.

He was taken by ambulance straight to the Port Macquarie Base Hospital and scans showed he had rib fractures as well as two broken vertebrae in his neck.

“Racing NSW’s training support officer, Malcolm Fitzgerald, visited Chau in hospital on Wednesday evening,” Racing NSW’s jockey safety officer Maurice Logue said.

“Malcolm said Allan is in good spirits and doctors have informed him he could possibly be released this Friday.”

Chau wasn’t the only jockey to have a nasty fall in the past week with Jessica Payne also going to ground in Taree on Tuesday.

She was thrown off her ride, Come On Aussie, and suffered tissue damage to her right leg however she has been released from hospital and returned home to recover.
