Jimmy on track for Hong Kong Mile

Trainer John Bary says everything is on track for star galloper Jimmy Choux going into next Sunday’s Hong Kong International Mile.

The Kiwi galloper will be the lone horse from Australasia to compete at the four-race rich International meet at Sha Tin.

Jimmy Choux flew to Hong Kong from Melbourne last week and Bary reports he has settled in well.

Bary and race jockey Jonathon Riddell will fly from Auckland on meet up with the horse on Tuesday.

“He had a good look around when he worked on the track for the first time,” Bary said.

“He’s very happy apparently, both my staff members believe Jimmy has grown and strengthened in the past few months.

“We get two cracks (at working Jimmy Choux) on the course proper.

“We have booked him in for Wednesday and Friday,

“We will give him a nice hit out on his own, probably 1200m or 1400m on Wednesday and a sharp 600m on Friday.”

The four-year-old son of Thorn Park hasn’t raced since a unlucky fourth in the Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington behind Albert The Fat.

Jimmy Choux received heavy contact at the start of the race when he shifted in and and was turned around at his  hindquarters.

Since the horse has stayed in Victoria preparing for the international engagement.

“Where he’s been for the last three weeks he’s been able to be in a paddock every afternoon, and that’s vital for our horses,” Bary said.

The main four races on the Sha Tin programme are the $2.5m Hong Kong Cup (2000m), $2m Hong Kong Mile (1600m), $1.75m Hong Kong Vase (2400m), $1.75m Hong Kong Sprint (1200m).

Sunline was the last Australasian horse to win the Hong Kong Mile back in 2000.
