Australasia’s chance of gaining Hong Kong International success took a turn for the better when its lone representative Jimmy Choux drew barrier two in $A2.5m Hong Kong Mile today.

The four-year-old entire’s extended campaign seems on track after a pleasing piece of trackwork at Sha Tin yesterday under the eye of trainer John Bary.

Despite racing since August, Jimmy Choux is seemingly  in sparkling form after a few hiccups.

Working on the course proper he ran 12.5 second 200m sectionals before unreeling a 11.5 second last 200m, wide on the course.

“He worked great so I am smiling,” Bary said.

“That was exactly what he needed and Jonathan (Riddell) was happy afterwards, which is always a good sign.”

Jimmy Choux will be asked for a brisk 600m tomorrow morning, again on the course proper, before Sunday’s Group 1 event.

The Asian trip hasn’t all been plain sailing for the multiple Group 1 winner.

Bary put problems down to the strange environment, isolation and a lack of paddocks.

“He sulked for the first week,” Bary admitted.

“After all, horses are herd animals and he didn’t like not having a mate to hang around with.

“So he wasn’t eating all that well the first week, but now he has got his head around it and looks fantastic.

“I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw him (yesterday) because his coat looks superb and really I can’t fault him.

“And he is eating well.

“He put 1.5kg back on again on Tuesday and I think he could be spot on for Sunday.”

Bary is now starting to believe Jimmy Choux can follow in the hoof prints of the great Sunline.

She was the last Australasian horse to win the Hong Kong Mile in 2000.

Further aiding Jimmy Choux’s chances is the poor draw of two UK gallopers.

Cityscape drew 12 and Dubawi’s Gold drew 14.

The two John Size-trained local chances had varying luck when marbles were allotted.

Flying Blue drew six while Sichuan Success drew 13.

The Darren Beadman mount Xtension drew nicely in five, he is slight favourite at $6  with IASBet bookies in a very open race.

In the Hong Kong Vase the Melbourne Cup quinella horses drew well in  the 12 horse field.

Dunaden is in barrier three and Red Cadeaux in seven.
