Brisbane Cup winner Jetset Lad is among the nineteen nominations for Saturday’s Group 3 $200,000 Carlton Draught Tattersall’s Cup (2400m) at the Gold Coast.

The Brian Smith trained Jetset Lad put the writing on the wall with a third, two starts back, to Faust in the Group 3 $125,000 Channel 7 Premier’s Cup (2020m) at Doomben on May 23 and then scored a win for the locals by downing Sense Of Occasion and Epingle in the Group 2 $300,000 Evergreen Turf Brisbane Cup (2200m) at Doomben on June 6.
Jetset Lad didn’t perform like a $41 chance and had to overcome a couple of setbacks before outstaying his rivals to get the judge’s decision in a blanket finish.
Winning jockey Paul Hammersley said that it was a tough staying effort after the seven year old missed the start by a length and was then forced to race three wide.
“He was up to his old tricks again of being fidgety in the barriers and came out a length behind the other horses,” Hammersley said.
“Even though he was three deep leaving the straight he worked into a good spot down the back straight and I was confident he would outstay them.”
Brisbane Cup third placegetter Epingle is also among the nominations for the Tattersall’s Cup and will get her chance to reverse the placings with Jetset Lad on Saturday after only getting beaten a nose and a nose in the Brisbane Cup.
The step up to the 2400m this weekend will suit Epingle who has recorded two wins and two seconds over that distance.
Also listed in the nominations is the Chris Waller trained Danchai who will be backing up after winning the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich last Saturday.
The leading Sydney trainer has also entered English import Trade Commission who is coming off a last start sixth to stablemates Reigning and Bagman in the $85,000 Schweppes Handicap (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
Banca Mo was back in form last Saturday with a fast finishing second to Danchai in the Ipswich Cup and will appreciate the step back up to 2400m after winning over that distance four starts back in the Listed $350,000 Mornington Cup at Mornington on March 28.
Three year old Old Tricks and the Gold Coast trained Noisy Ocean are also among the nominations for the Tattersall’s Cup and will be backing up after finishing fourth and sixth behind Danchai in the Ipswich Cup.
