Jabali Not Included In Caulfield Guineas First Acceptances

Jabali was the most high profile three-year-old missing from the 2014 Caulfield Guineas first acceptances that were released this afternoon.

Jabali finished second behind Earthquake in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) earlier this year and was earmarked as a leading contender for both the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), but he has been sent to the spelling paddock by trainer Mick Price after he failed to fire after being well-backed in both the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16 and the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) at the same venue on August 30.

Despite the withdrawal of Jabali, Price still has a number of talented three-year-olds in his stable and Cornrow, Manhattan Avenue, Moonovermanhattan and War Point have all been included in the Caulfield Guineas first acceptances.

Leading Melbourne trainer David Hayes has not won the Caulfield Guineas since he took out the 1994 edition of the race with St. Covet, but he still has plenty of chances to win the race in 2014 after including 17 horses in the Caulfield Guineas first acceptances.

Champagne Stakes runner-up Zululand is the best credentialed of the Hayes-trained runners that is still in contention for the Caulfield Guineas, but he has not impressive in his two starts this preparation and was beaten by stablemate Forgive And Forget in the Caulfield Guineas.

No horse in history has completed the Golden Rose Stakes/Caulfield Guineas double, but a number of horses that are set to contest the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) this weekend have been included in the Caulfield Guineas first acceptances.

Almalad, Bachman, Better Land, Hallowed Crown, Kumaon, Nostradamus, Sarajevo, Scissor Kick, Modoc, Shooting To Win and Sniper Fire make up the majority of the Golden Rose Stakes field and all remain a chance of heading to Melbourne after they run in Sydney this weekend.

Chivalry stamped himself as a leading contender for the Caulfield Guineas when he stormed home late to win the Group 3 McNeil Stakes (1200m) and he was included in the acceptances, while impressive McKenzie Stakes winner Rich Enuff and Vain Stakes victor Get The Nod remain on track to contest the Group 1 event.

Godolphin won the 2013 Caulfield Guineas with Long John and will have the chance to win the race in back-to-back years after the likes of Bracteate, Ghibellines, Gouldian and Sweynesse were included in the first acceptances.

Tony Gollan-trained Looks Like The Cat, J.J. Atkins Stakes winner Brazen Beau, Chris Waller-trained Law and promising gelding Merion have also been included in the 2014 Caulfield Guineas first acceptances.
