I’ve Got The Looks Salutes in Juanmo Stakes

Talented filly I’ve Got The Looks has stamped her claims as one to watch through the Brisbane Winter Carnival at Doomben this afternoon; producing an impressive turn of foot in the final straight to take out the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Blake Shinn settled I’ve Got The Looks in prime position on the heels of early leaders Traveston Girl and Sarisara who flew from the barriers and set a noticeably quick tempo approaching the turn.

Receiving an ideal run in transit with cover, the daughter of Choisir hugged the rails and made up good ground upon reaching the final straight, peeling off the back of Traveston Girl before charging forward; locking in a fierce sprint battle with the Tony Gollan-trained filly and Dublin Lass but managed to open a half-length gap by the time the three hit the line.

Shinn delivered a typically brilliant ride upon I’ve Got The Looks for success in the 2015 Juanmo Stakes and was elated to partner a horse formally trained by his good friend the late, great Guy Walter.

“It’s very special to win on this horse. Guy used to train her and it’s just on 12 months since he passed away,” Shinn said.

“To win a race on this day and a horse that he formally trained, it’s a pretty special feeling.”

Now prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, I’ve Got The Looks was charged with carrying 4kgs more in the 2015 Juanmo Stakes than her allocation in the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) a fortnight ago but did not appear fazed by the extra weight.

“She just keeps raising the bar this horse,” Shinn added.

“The speed was genuine and the barrier was crucial to her chances, especially going up in weight.

“I was able to get a great drag along from one of the fancied runners Traveston Girl and I was just able to ride her to her advantage which is her turn of foot, and she did the rest.

“I want to make special mention to the Snowden camp. Since taking over they’ve really got her performing well and great job from those guys.”

I’ve Got The Looks has now won a total of eight races through a 19 start career which has also included five minor place finishes.

Having now posted wins in consecutive black type races won by Srikandi in 2014, the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben in a fortnight may figure as I’ve Got The Looks’ next competitive point of call.
