I’ve Got The Looks Returns With Silk Stocking Victory

I’ve Got The Looks justified her short price to return to racing with a comfortable win in the 2015 Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast this afternoon.

I’ve Got The Looks was returning to the races for the first time since she finished 11th behind Avoid Lightning in the Group 3 City Tattersalls Club Nivison (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 18, but she showed her usual gate speed to jump in front of her rivals in the Silk Stocking, but jockey Glen Boss was happy to restrain the mare on the fence and allow a number of other horses to cross.

The Choisir mare looked as though she could be blocked for a run heading into the straight, but the majority of jockeys elected to get off the fence and a lovely passaged opened up for the five-year-old on the fence before Boss took the talented mare to the centre of the track.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden admitted after the race that Boss’s original plan was to try and get off the fence heading into the straight, but he was simply happy that the talented mare was able to record a maiden win at black type level in the Silk Stocking.

“She won really well, I was really pleased with the effort and it was good to get some black-type too for Kevin,” Snowden said.

“She has been knocking on the door for quite a while, but luck went her way today and under the weights she was very well in and she won accordingly.

“There was a couple of times that she probably should have won before, but she had no luck in the run and today she had a good gate and everybody was keen to get off the fence and that presented a saloon passage for her turning for home.

“She was good enough to get through that and she accelerated going for home.

“It was a good win.”

Snowden is yet to fully decided on a 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival path for I’ve Got The Looks, but the leading trainer indicated that she was likely to contest the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 23 and the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) at the same venue on June 6 before a potential tilt at the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.

“We are not sure that we could stretch her to seven, but there are still two more good races during the Carnival,” Snowden said.

Estonian Princess hit the line strongly in her return to racing and she looks set for a big winter campaign, while Sarisara also found the line well to finish third.
