Ivanhowe To Join Freedman Stable

Talented German stayer Ivanhowe is set to join the Team Freedman stable after he was purchased by a group of Australian based clients.

Ivanhowe returned to Europe after he finished a credible sixth behind Epiphaneia in the Group 1 Japan Cup (2413m) at Tokyo on November 30 and he is set to make the trip to Australia in early February after spending two weeks in quarantine at Newmarket in England.

Co-owner Johnny O’Neill said that there were plenty of options for Ivanhowe during the 2015 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, including the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 11, while races like the Group 1 Singapore International Cup (2400m) and a trip to Royal Ascot could also be on the agenda for the Soldier Hollow entire.

“He could be a Cox Plate or Cups horse in the spring,” O’Neill said.

“Lee and Anthony will get a better handle on when he arrives.”

Ivanhowe made his racing debut under the care of Wilhelm Giedt with a win in the Group 2 Oppenheim Union Renne (2212m) at Cologne in June of 2013 and he finished his debut racing season with an eighth place finish in the Group 1 Deutsches Derby (2413m) at Hamburg on July 7.

The talented entire returned to racing with a win in the Group 2 Gerling-Preis (2413m) after joining the stable of Jean-Pierre Carvalho at Colgone in May last year before he made his racing debut outside of Germany with a slightly disappointing effort in the Group 2 Grand Prix De Chantilly on June 1.

Ivanhowe recorded the biggest win of his racing career to date when he upset German superstar Sea The Moon to win the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Baden (2413m) at Baden Baden on September 8 and he earnt a chance in the Group 1 Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp on October 5, but was outclassed and finished 18th behind Treve.

He returned to winning form with a second win at the highest level of racing in the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Bayern (2413m) in Munich on November 1 before he made the trip to Japan for the Japan Cup.

Australian Bloodstock-owned Protectionist became the first German-bred horse to win the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) when he produced an outstanding performance at Flemington on November 4 and could meet Ivanhowe in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
