Trainer Gratz Vella is hopeful that a step up in distance will be all is needed for Tiara Time to post her maiden win at Canberra tomorrow.

The four-year-old mare has had seven placings from 17 career starts, however, is yet to enter the winner’s circle.

“She has plenty of ability but every-time she gets close to a win she finds one better,” Vella said.

“She does look a very good chance tomorrow, I decided to give her a little bit more distance up to the 1280 metres which should suit her a bit better I think.”

Tiara Time finished a disappointing fifth in her last race start after posting a credible second in her first-up performance.

“It was bit disappointing last start because she had the run of the race and she didn’t go on with it,” Vella said.

“She seems to have lost that bit of dash this time, she did show plenty of it first up but I think the 1280 metres with Matthew Cahill on her will suit her very well.”

The trainer will line up three other runners at Canberra tomorrow.

“She definitely looks the best of my four runners tomorrow,” he said.

“Ocky Vella and Need To Show who are in the same race have been working very well and they will be there at the finish.”

This year’s Black Opal winner, You’re Canny, will resume in a trial later in the day.

If all goes well, You’re Canny will have his first-up run in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes for three-year-olds at Rosehill Gardens on August 13.

“He has been doing everything right,” Vella said.

“He has gotten taller and has been working well, I am very happy with him.

“We are looking at the San Domenico at Rosehill for him on Saturday week if he trials well.”
