It’s official, classy New Zealand colt It’s A Dundeel will be given the chance to further stamp his authority on the Sydney Autumn Carnival in Saturday week’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

Trainer Murray Baker confirmed this morning the three-year-old has come through his dominant Australian Derby win well and is primed to take on the older horses in the $500,000 race.

With regular jockey James McDonald sidelined through suspension, Baker had already booked Michael Rodd  and said the horse has not shown any signs to suggest his brilliant run can’t continue.

The experienced trainer is usually reserved but even he is struggling to contain his excitement about It’s A Dundeel.

“I’ve had some top horses over the years and I don’t get carried away. But he’s in a league of his own,” Baker told New Zealand’s the Informant.

“It would be great if he could finish off this season with five Group 1 wins.”

Despite being a New Zealand horse, It’s A Dundeel has raced 10 of his 11 career starts in Australia.

He showed potential in the spring when winning the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes but has been an awesome force this autumn.

After taking out the Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas in convincing style, there was a slight query over his ability to run a strong 2400m in the Derby.

But like Black Caviar in the TJ Smith, It’s A Dundeel not only silenced the critics, he made them look silly.

The son of High Chaparral sat calmly at the back of the field before unleashing an awesome turn of foot to cruise past his rivals for a six-length win, becoming just the fifth horse to claim Sydney’s 3YO triple crown.

Confirmation of It’s A Dundeel’s Queen Elizabeth start sets up a possible mouth-watering showdown with Doncaster Mile favourite Pierro who could back up on Saturday week.
