Invisible Out To Make History In Magic Millions Classic

Trainer Michael Hawkes is confident that Invisible can make history and become the first horse to win the Magic Millions Classic second-up at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Invisible earned a start in the Magic Millions Classic with an impressive victory on debut at Canterbury in the TAB IPad App Plate (1200m) on December 28 and Hawkes told Sky Racing HQ this morning that the All American colt had taken plenty of improvement out of the first-up run.

“No horse has ever won it second-up ever but things are there to be broken and hopefully we can do it Saturday,” Hawkes said.

“The horse is great and he has trained on really well since his win.

“His work on Tuesday was outstanding, as it always is, but he isn’t out to run time because he knows what he needs to do.”

Team Hawkes have generally not targeted the Magic Millions Classic but Hawkes said that the $2 million event has always been the target for Invisible during his two-year-old campaign.

Hawkes believes that Invisible will be an even better horse as a three-year-old and has been surprised at just how much improvement the colt has shown since entering their stable at Rosehill Gardens just over a year ago.

“The race has always been in mind,” Hawkes said.

“When we bought him he was an outstanding colt and you try and place the horses for Blue Diamonds, Golden Slippers and Magic Millions.

“We have never really been one to target this race, I know we have had a couple of runners in the past, but we have never really targeted this race because we have bought out of this race going forward to a Diamond or a Slipper.

“When he was a little bit precocious and wanted to get up and get going then all of a sudden we thought we should target this race.

“Two weeks ago he wasn’t even in the field and in Sydney he had to win and win convincingly to book his ticket to get here.

“He has done that and he has just gone forward.

“He just keeps improving.”

Invisible was one of the biggest winners out of the 2014 Magic Millions Classic barrier draw on Tuesday and will jump from barrier seven with rising jockey James McDonald on board.

Hawkes said earlier in the week that he was hoping to draw between barrier four and eight with Invisible and was delighted that the classy juvenile will start towards the middle of the field.

“I thing that it is the perfect draw in this scenario,” Hawkes said.

“It is a bigger field, it is a tighter track and it is worth $2 million so everybody is going to go helter skelter.

“I think where he is positioned is perfect because he drew six the other day at Canterbury and he sat outside the leader.

“He doesn’t have to lead and ideally he will be just off the speed.

“It really depends on the speed out wide and the speed inside but our bloke has a good turn-of-foot, he is relaxed and he can be anywhere in the run.

“Nothing is going to worry him; I can’t complain and I am rapt with where we are.”

Invisible is currently on the second line of Magic Millions Classic betting markets at odds of $5.50; with Unencumbered a clear favourite at a price of $3.70.
