Into The Sun is looking for his fifth win in a row at Rosehill
In race three at Rosehill Gardens this weekend rejuvenated gelding Into The Sun will be shooting for his fifth win on the trot as he continues to rise through the ranks in New South Wales.
It was only back in May of this year when the now six year old gelding ran dead last at Sandown Hillside and dead last again at a country meeting at Warrnambool.
It’s a far cry off where he is today and the journey he’s taken to get here is quite remarkable.
He finished midfield at the Geelong synthetic track before improving slightly to run home fourth at the same venue in a Benchmark 72.
From there he dropped back to a Benchmark 68 at Swan Hill and finished second before recording the same result at Ararat Park.
Something turned around though and from there he returned to Geelong synthetic to win his heat of the Winter Challenge series and go on to win the final as well two weeks later.
That sent him across the country to Morphettville where he won over 1400m before his last start victory back at Rosehill in a $70,000 event.
Trainer Malcolm Carson says the journey isn’t finished yet either, in fact he even claims he’s getting better.
“He’s pulled up an absolute treat and dare I see it he’s improved again,” he said.
It seems unlikely given he’s nine runs into his prep but then again the results he’s recorded are just as unlikely.
“He’s always going to be this sort of horse, he went off the boil a little bit halfway through last prep and we had to do a few things a little bit differently with him,” he said.
It’ll be a tough ask on Saturday from gate 14 in a 17 horse field but Carson says he can ahndle that too.
“He raced forward the other day over a little bit shorter trip but it doesn’t really bother this horse to be ridden back, he’s Mr versatile,” he said.
“I’d nearly say he’s better ridden back.”
The 1500m also isn’t a concern, nor is the state of the track as he has wins across all ratings.
“He’s been to a mile and he’s produced,” Carson said.
His recent run has massively improved his overall career record with 33 starts for 10 wins and seven placings nearing $200,000 in prize money.
