Brisbane racing is set to gain a huge boost with the decision of international jockey Jeff Lloyd to relocate to the Gold Coast.

The record breaking South African jockey who currently is riding in Hong Kong, will join the Brisbane riding ranks in late March after the running of the Hong Kong Derby.

Lloyd has called on the services of Melissa Shield to manage his rides when he arrives in Queensland and will base the bulk of his riding in Brisbane as well as following the carnivals.

Shield, who manages Brisbane jockey Jason Taylor, said that Lloyd would be settling at Hope Island with his wife Nicola and their three children.

“Jeff gets back in Australia on March 20 but he won’t have his first ride here until March 31,” Shield said.

“Jeff is a real family man and when he was last in Australia he bought a home on Hope Island.”

“He’ll be concentrating on Brisbane races and he wants to target the Brisbane jockeys’ premiership.”

The international jockey was successful on Fleet Command at Sha Tin last Saturday taking his season’s win tally to thirteen, along way off runaway leader Douglas Whyte who has fifty-three wins beside his name.

Lloyd, 50, has a tremendous riding record which includes over 4.400 winners world wide.

He became the first rider to ride over 4,000 victories in his native South Africa and also broke the record for the number of wins in a season, an unbelievable 313.

He also claimed the South African title on six occasions and was champion jockey in Mauritius five times.

The AJC Derby and the Singapore Gold Cup are among Lloyd’s 87 Group 1 wins as well as over 90 Group 2 and 60 Group 3 wins.

Besides being champion South African rider, Lloyd has also rode extensively throughout the world during his career including stints in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Australia, New Zealand, England, Germany and Mauritius.
