He’s one of the most prolific racehorse owners in all of Australia and boasts a stable that just about every trainer would love to get their hands on.

For Lloyd Williams though even that isn’t enough to ease the anxiety he has ahead of the 2011 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.

Like many he too has been taken back by the sheer number of imports that are targeting this year’s events and equally concerned about the quality they bring.

Lloyd’s son Nick reflected the mood of the camp saying they know they face an uphill battle to win the silverware this time around.

“We’re not growing in confidence at all,” he said.

“It’s the longest 30 days of the year, this next 30 days – a bit like the 30 days Collingwood had before the Grand Final. Anything can happen.”

As it stand overseas horses fill up half of the top 14 spots for the Caulfield Cup and they boast an even better representation for the November feature.

In fact in the Melbourne Cup early markets they fill 17 of the top 21 positions, something that’s been previously unheard of.

Overseas horses that are now trained in Australia are among the leaders, the likes of December Draw, My Kingdom Of Fife and Glass Harmonium all enjoying great starts to their spring programs.

For the William’s team though they are not without hope and they can be confident in the fact the horses they do own are in good shape.

Mourayan easily won the Bart Cummings at Flemington on Sunday and Green Moon was equally impressive in winning the Newcastle Cup two weeks back.

Midas Touch has also worked well in his past two runs and he’s likely to continue directly into the Caulfield Cup without another start.

At First Sight is another that showed promise in good company and he could join Green Moon in attempting to prove their Cup’s credentials this Saturday in the Caulfield Stakes.

There’s no concrete schedule locked in yet though and a decision will be made today after the horses complete their trackwork.

“They’ll have strong gallops in the morning and we’ll make up our minds from there,” Nick Williams said.

“In all likelihood At First Sight will run in the Caulfield Stakes, and maybe Green Moon and Midas Touch might wait a week.”
