Scarlett Lady has been ruled out of the remaining Spring Carnival

New Zealand mare Scarlett Ladywill miss the remainder of the spring racing carnival due to a leg injury.

The four-year-old had been a leading hope for trainers Graeme and Debbie Rogerson in both the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup and the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup this spring.

The trainers, alongside owner and Australian Turf Club director Max Whitby, decided to put an end to Scarlett Lady’s current campaign after they were notified of the injury yesterday.

“She has a bone chip that needs to be removed,” Whitby said.

“She got checked in the Underwood at Caulfield and we think that’s where it happened.

“She didn’t eat up the next day and we got vets in to treat her.

“The x-rays finally showed the chip which needs to be removed.

“It’s a minor problem that’s had a big impact but she will recover and be back bigger and better for the autumn.”

Scarlett Lady finished eighth in her Group 1 Underwood Stakes run.

The Savabeel mare has won six of her 12 starts to date and accrued more than $375,000 in prize money.

Scarlett Lady’s most notable win was in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks during this year’s Brisbane winter carnival.
