An extra race for the four year olds has been added to the Inglis Race Series with a $250,000 2000m Inglis Cup being programmed for the Spring of 2014.

Inglis graduated horses can now race for a total of $5 million and the extra race gives the older horses a chance to share in the prizemoney on offer.

“It’s about giving all our clients the opportunity to win prizemoney with their Inglis graduates,” Jonathon D’Arcy from Inglis said.

“Obviously the two year olds are really well catered for with the Inglis Banner on Cox Plate day and the Inglis Nursery on Villiers day, then of course you’ve got the Inglis Classic and the Melbourne Premier and Scone and Autumn races so there is a nice spread of races throughout their two and three year old career.”

D’Arcy said that the addition of a slightly longer race for the older gallopers opens up more opportunities for horses that take a little longer to mature.

“So to give something more to aim for and over a slightly longer journey as four year olds, we thought this would be a nice addition to the race Series,” D’Arcy said.

Inglis have pencilled in the Inglis Cup for September next year as a lead into the Melbourne Spring Carnival and are currently in negotiations with Racing Victoria to finalise a venue.

“It will be in September in the lead up to the Spring Carnival, so it will give horses that are being aimed at the better class of staying races an opportunity to be running over a journey such as 2000m at one of the city tracks,” D’Arcy said.

Inglis already have several $100,000 city bonus races and $50,000 provincial bonus races scattered throughout the racing calendar on offer for Inglis graduates.

Inglis are also proud to be offering a $2.4 million bonus for their Triple Crown Series which is alive and running following the Bjorn Baker trained Twilight Royale winning the first two legs, the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Warwick Farm in December last year and the  Group 2 $220,000 Henry Bucks Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in March.

The third leg of the bonus, the $400,000 Inglis 3yo Guineas (1400m) in run at Scone in May, giving Baker a nice target to aim for in the Autumn.
