I’m Jake is the type of horse that doesn’t need a lot of luck in his races, he makes his own fortune by striding forward and finding his own space ahead of the pack.

It’s a strategy that requires a horse with plenty of gate speed as well as a big heart to hang on when the swoopers rally at the death.

I’m Jake has proven he’s the type of horse that can do it though most recently by winning the Listed Ansett Classic at Mornington.

Today he makes a big jump in grade to a highly competitive Geelong Cup but trainer David Brideoake says he’s got the ability to match it with these.

“He’s in fine shape, he’s a very fit horse, had a trouble free program,” he said.

“His performance at Mornington was very good, admittedly against lesser opposition…I still think he’s a real chance.”

The track at Mornington that day was heavy however Brideoake says he doesn’t need the ground to be rain affected to be competitive, in fact he’d prefer it wasn’t.

“We think he’s better on top of the ground,” he said.

There will also be no change in the aggressive style of the horse with the team not intimidated by the task they face today in Geelong.

“He’s in absolutely fine form, drawn (barrier) one, he’ll race forward and I think he’ll be there a long way,” he said.

“He’ll lead or he’ll be in the first few anyway…it just depends on what sort of pace they decide to make.”

The Main danger’s to I’m Jake in the 2011 Geelong Cup appear to be Tanby and Above Average as well as the European imports Dunaden and Bauer.
