The most exciting race taking place is arguably the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse, worth a total $125,000.

13 potential stayers will line-up in the stalls on Friday after Peter Moody’s Metaphorical was scratched from the race on Wednesday morning.

Nine-year-old galloper I’m Imposing returns to defend his title after winning last year’s Summer Cup and the Chris Waller-trained gelding is the firm favourite with odds of $3.20 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

I’m Imposing will carry the top weight of 59kg, which is two and a half kilograms more than he rode with in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) last time out. The gelding will jump from barrier eight with Tye Angland in the saddle.

Angland has ridden I’m Imposing in three of his four starts this campaign, all of which the gelding managed to finish in the first two. The pair finished second in the Filante Handicap (1500m) first up before finding the class of the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) too much on November 8, where he finished 13 lengths behind winner Hucklebuck in second last place.

The nine-year-old proved he still had what it takes when he turned his form around to win the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) three weeks later and was a fast finishing runner-up in the Villiers Stakes last time out.

Scream Machine is on the second line of betting at $4.80 despite drawing wide in barrier 12. The six-year-old gelding is one of six further runners coming via the Villiers Stakes, in which he finished just a neck off third place.

The gelding hasn’t run over 2000 metres since last year’s Summer Cup, where he finished five lengths behind I’m Imposing in sixth place. However the Villiers showed he had more in him. Blake Shinn will partner the horse for the first time this campaign.

Pelicano ($7), Multilateral ($8), and Surge Ahead ($9) round out the single figure odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
