Ilovethiscity Chases First Spring Victory In George Main

Ilovethiscity will jump from barrier six in the Group 1 George Main Stakes

Ilovethiscity is set to have his third run of the spring in the Group 1 George Main Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday after failing to place in his last start at Warwick Farm.

Trainer Grahame Begg is not looking into the four-year-old’s eighth place finish too much, instead commenting that the race was not run to suit Ilovethiscity.

“On face value he looked a touch disappointing, he was favourite and he was expected to win and finished out of the money,” Begg said.

“He had a few little excuses in the race.”

“He was coming off a three week break and ran on that heavy nine.

“It wasn’t ideal.

“I’m sure back up to 1500 he’ll be much better suited and maybe the size field will suit him and the pace of the race.”

Ilovethiscity has drawn barrier six for the race that at this stage is expected to be run on a good-rated track.

“He wants firm ground and we expect him to run well,” Begg said.

“He’ll just take a sit somewhere and hopefully be able to come on late.”

The trainer plans to target the $500,000 Epsom Handicap on October 1st with Ilovethiscity.

“There’s the Epsom in two weeks’ time, so we’ll assess how he runs Saturday but certainly that’s on the agenda,” he said.
