Hoylonny Racing Time For Australian Guineas

Chris Waller has no doubts that Hoylonny has a bit of class about him but whether or not that class will be ready to shine through this autumn is a different story.

The three year old colt was impressive with a tough victory over 1300m at Warwick Farm yesterday.

He was pressured over the course of the straight but held his composure to win a competitive little contest.

Waller says he’d love to set him up for the Group 1 Australian Guineas over 1600m at Flemington in March but whether or not he has the time to do it is another story.

“Hoylonny has the makings of a very good horse,” Waller said.

“He’s a very athletic horse with the best attitude. I guess he is a typical Lonhro, very laid-back.

“But he’s still very green, both physically and mentally. He’s got a big future but he needs to find six months in about six weeks.”

Yesterday’s win gave Hoylonny his second win from three career starts and even his defeat showed promise.

On debut he finished third to eventual Victoria Derby champion Sangster in an event many believe he was unlucky not to win.

This form line shows he may well be up to carnival standard but for Waller it’ll be all about timing and finding the right distance.

One place he won’t find it though is at the Magic Millions Guineas on the Gold Coast.

Despite being qualified Waller has elected to pass up the $1 million event as it comes up too soon.

“He is eligible for the Magic Millions but that would be too much of a rush to get the horse there,” Waller said.
