Americain Horse Information
Long before Americain became the first French trained horse to win a Melbourne Cup his trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre was a legend in his homeland. While the Normandy-based trainer has notched up countless Group winners at home his exploits in other countries has been just as impressive.
De Royer-Dupre had in fact won Group races in eight different countries prior to the 2010 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) won by Americain. A winner of the 1984 Breeders’ Cup Turf with Lashkari and the 2006 Champion Stakes in Great Britain with Pride are just a couple of his better efforts.
Americain is back for the 2011 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 1. He is likely to take in the 2011 Moonee Valley Cup on Cox Plate day as a lead up. While he carried 54.5kg to victory in the 2010 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) he has been given 58kg for the 2011 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) on November 1.
From five starts since he won the 2010 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) he has won once. He raced in Hong Kong in December in the 2010 Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m) and finished a gallant third. He resumed unsuccessfully in April 2011 and came again in August to win the Listed Race Prix De Reux (2500m) at Deauville from Diamond Bay by a length.
Back in Australia, the French galloper with the US name and Aussie owners has much going for him again.
Any 2010 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) replay will show how dominant he was beating one of Australia’s best in So You Think. The question is whether the 2011 Group 1 Melbourne Cup field will be any stronger? If the answer is no, you may be reading about 2011 Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner right now.
One thing is sure, Alain De Royer-Dupre will have him at his best on the day.
