Hijack Hussy To Resume In Mick Dittman Plate

Hijack Hussy will return to the races in the 2015 Mick Dittman Plate at Doomben on Saturday and trainer Tony Gollan is confident that the talented filly is ready to run well fresh.

Hijack Hussy stamped herself as a horse to watch when she recorded a strong win in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, but she had no luck in running in both the Listed Mode Plate (1200m) at Doomben on December 6 and the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast on December 27.

The Hussonet filly went into the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 10 as a clear favourite, but she was never able to get into the race and she was found to be lame at the conclusion of the event.

Gollan told Sky Racing that Hijack Hussy had clearly come to the end of her campaign when she failed to fire in the Magic Millions Guineas, but he said that the three-year-old had thrived during her stint in the spelling paddock and should return to her best form in the Mick Dittman Plate this weekend.

“I think I just pushed the barrel one run to many there,” Gollan said.

“She had a couple of tough runs and I was quite concerned with that, but she is such a good eating filly and she is very tough, so she didn’t show us any signs but she obviously raced below her best that day.

“She had a spell and she has come back in great order.”

Gollan has also included Traveston Girl in the 2015 Mick Dittman Plate nominations, but the Thousand Guineas placegetter is no certainty to contest the race as she has also been included in the nominations for the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m).

The leading Brisbane trainer is yet to decide what race he will target with Traveston Girl, but he is confident that the three-year-old will perform well in whatever race she contests this weekend.

“I suppose that it is six of one, half a dozen of the other,” Gollan said.

“Both races will be strong, there are no easy ones during the carnival and I’m not sure which way we will go, but she has taken great improvement out of that first-up run.”

Gollan has a number of different options with Hijack Hussy during the 2015 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and she has been included in the nominations for both the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
