This year’s Cox Plate favourite Helmethas drawn an outside gate for this Saturday’s $3 million race at Moonee Valley.

The only three-year-old in the race, Helmet has drawn barrier 11 of 14.

Trainer Peter Snowden said the young colt looked flawless ahead of this weekend’s big race.

“This morning’s work was just perfect, it was spot on work,” Snowden said.

“We did the work we wanted to do and he did it very easily.”

Snowden believes Helmet has saved his best performance of his campaign for Saturday’s Cox Plate.

“His last few runs were probably his most dominant,” he said.

“He comes into this run in my mind as good as ever.

“That light weight is going to kick in somewhere… I hope it’s the last three furlongs.”

However, the trainer realises there are some major obstacles standing in the way of Helmet and a prestigious Cox Plate win.

“He’s going against older horses for the first time and 2000 metres for the first time,” Snowden said.

“(But) he deserves his place in this field and he should run well.”

Fellow Cox Plate runner Secret Admirer has drawn barrier eight, an outcome that pleased trainer Grahame Begg.

“That was the gate we wanted to draw,” he said.

The four-year-old mare’s morning track work left her trainer delighted earlier today.

“She got around very very well and just relaxed,” Begg said.

Trainer Greg Eurell will have to contend with the wide gate of 12 with his mare Pinker Pinker in Saturday’s Cox Plate.

“It’s something we’re going to have a bit of a chat about,” Eurell said.

“We were sort of hoping, if it was possible, three to five would have suited us.”

Despite the unfavourable draw, Eurell says Pinker Pinker’s Cox Plate preparation has been encouraging.

“We’re very very happy this preparation,” he said.

“She’s had a couple of close encounters and nearly got there.”

The Reset mare finished second last start in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap at Randwick.

“We’re very very happy with that run,” Eurell said.

“She’s just like an old campaigner and nothing worries this mare.

“The gap of three weeks (between runs) has probably blended in very well.”

Pinker Pinker will be ridden by last weekend’s Caulfield Cup winning jockey Craig Williams.

“Craig, he’s in super form,” Eurell said.

“He was full of bounce and very upbeat about the whole thing.”
