Heinrich Wants Three Shots At Magic Millions

There’s no doubt winning the 2010 Magic Millions with Military Rose was the highlight of Gillian Heinrich’s professional career and she’s leaving no stone unturned in the hunt for a second.

As it stands she already has two entries for the 2012 feature with a chance at sneaking in a third as well.

Sunset Affair is the horse yet to qualify and it will now come down to the Group 3 BJ McLachlan Stakes over 1200m at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.

The original plan was to run over 1000m in the Listed Calaway Gal at Eagle Farm this weekend but Heinrich feels she could use the extra week.

This is despite the fact it means lining her up against Military Bride in an event she has to win.

“I’m waiting another two weeks with Sunset Affair and unfortunately she’ll have to line up against Military Bride in the B J McLachlan,” Heinrich said.

“She’s coming along well and if she’s good enough she’ll win and get into the Magic Millions.

“I’d love to have a third runner.”

To be fair even if Sunset Affair had run this Saturday she would have been up against a stalemate with the other of Heinrich’s qualified horses, Pure Whisper, to line up in the event.

“I’m very happy with Pure Whisper. She hasn’t raced for over a month but she’s really coming along well after taking her to the beach for a couple of weeks,” Heinrich said.

The trainer admits it was tempting to push Military Bride forward a week to give Sunset Affair an easier a path but she doesn’t want to compromise that horses preparation.

“I could have started Military Bride on Saturday as well but I don’t want to overtax her.

“The B J McLachlan will be her third run and the Magic Millions her fourth which is plenty for a filly.”

Heinrich knows she needs to give herself as many chances as possible on the Gold Coast in January as she doesn’t have an individual runner with the brilliance of Military Rose.

“Military Rose went into the Magic Millions unbeaten in three runs and none of these have gone anywhere near that,” she said.
