Heidilicious Passes QLD Derby Trial

Heidilicious will have one more chance to show her true potential during the Brisbane Winter Carnival with stewards satisfied with her barrier trial this morning.

Heidilicious has been plagued by barrier dramas in important races and this morning’s barrier trial at Doomben was make or break for her Queensland Derby chances.

After being passed she’s being confirmed as a starter for the Queensland Derby and trainer John Sadler will send her into battle with the colts and geldings.

It will be interesting to see if she can remain relaxed on race day though after her last two performances left plenty to be desired.

In The Doomben Roses she missed the start by five before rejoining the field and running home a game sixth down the home straight.

This impressed plenty who backed her in the Queensland Oaks but again she faltered and found herself at the back of the field.

Once again though she hit the line hard finishing fifth leaving many calling her a winning chance in the Derby if she can get her start right.

In today’s trial they experimented with a barrier blanket which seemed to do the trick and she jumped well with no issues.

“She trialled and passed with flying colours,” Malau Racing Manager Troy Corstens said.

“She had the barrier blanket on and jumped out no problems at all. Allan Russell rode her in the trial and she followed the field but he said she was keen and worked well.”

While she may be running at the top level, Heidilicious is still very green having had only the six career starts.

The stable is very keen to keep her going in the top classes though and they have a huge opinion of her ability.

At the moment she is a $12 hope to win the Queensland Derby.
