Buffering and Woorim are undoubtedly the stars of the Queensland racing industry at the moment and they both achieved their success under the guidance of Robert Heathcote.

Heathcote is easily the premiere trainer in Brisbane and he’s becoming more and more of a force during the major carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne thanks largely to these two gallopers.

The duo will once again travel south this campaign to tackle the Melbourne autumn and the big money on offer.

The pair worked on the course proper yesterday and Heathcote says it was good to simply be able to get back on the turf after Brisbane’s horrible run of weather.

“I was pleased with the work, it was just nice to have access to the track, we’ve lost the past couple of weeks,’ he said.

Both Buffering and Woorim have showed they can match it with the best in the country and once again Heathcote will be setting them on the biggest assignments.

“Buffering will line up against Hay List in the Lightning Stakes,” Heathcote said.

“He’s proven, he ran second to Black Caviar last start in the Patinack, if he can reproduce that he’ll be competitive.”

Woorim meanwhile will start off in the Oakleigh Plate over 1100m before stepping up in trip as far as a mile.

Michael Rodd will ride Buffering in the Lightning Stakes with Damian Browne to follow Woorim for the duration of his prep.

It’s hard to pick between the two although as it stands Buffering probably has the more runs on the board.

“He’s only had the 20 starts and he’s won over $1.1 million,” Heathcote said.

That could well have been different though were Woorim to have found space in the Group 1 Emirates last start.

“He was a little unlucky at his last run, Michael got held up a bit up the straight,” he said.

“He needs a few things to go his way but he’s certainly got the fastest finish in a race of any horse I’ve trained.”

The horses will fly down to Melbourne on the 14th and won’t have any trials before they kick off their campaigns.

It’s a tactic that worked for Heathcote in the spring when both horses won races at their first up starts on the same Moonee Valley program.
