Heat wave forces Gosford off

Today’s Gosford twilight race meeting has been postponed due to the extreme temperatures that have been sweeping across New South Wales.

Racing New South Wales stewards meet with jockeys and club veterinary surgeon Dr Kristi Goldman when the temperature soared to 43 degrees and all parties concerned agreed that the conditions were unsuitable for racing and the meeting was called off.

An extract from the Steward’s report read “After taking submissions from all riders in the first event, and after seeking veterinary advice from Dr K Goldman, and after viewing the revised weather conditions on the Bureau of Meteorology website, the stewards determining that, in the interests of the safety and welfare of the horses and participants, conditions were unsuitable for racing, postponed the race meeting.”

The thoroughbred meeting wasn’t the only one to suffer from the horrific heat with tonight’s Newcastle Gardens greyhound meeting called off as well as tonight’s Wentworth Park dog program being transferred to Sunday afternoon.
