Hay List Sibling Starts Career With A Bang

A mid-week race meeting in Gosford isn’t usually something which would catch our attention but a little gelding called Sound Of The Ocean is certainly one to note down for the future.

He’s a half brother to superstar sprinter Hay List and despite going into the race with plenty of pressure he rose to the challenge and won on debut.

The three-year-old  only just got to the lead as they hit the line at the end of the 1100m trek but there are plenty of positive signs for the future.

Sound Of The Ocean is also trained by John McNair who has taken Hay List to two Group 1 victories and another three second place finishes behind Black Caviar this season.

Going out as a $6.50 chance Sound Of The Ocean looked beaten half way down the straight but he found another gear and managed to just nab the tiring front runner.

He was ridden in a slightly different way to his older brother, settling on the fence back in the middle of the pack.

McNair is obviously still to work out which race pattern suits him best and you could expect him to sit a little further forward in his next start.

Hay List is currently in the spelling paddock recovering from a leg infection which saw him ruled out of the Doomben 10,000 where he was a short priced favourite.
